The hosts of The View went off on Donald Trump’s “lame” jokes at the Al Smith Dinner during Friday’s show, which they said were “awkward,” and “didn’t land.”

“To have Donald Trump sitting there and we are pretending that he is some sort of upstanding citizen—I find that rather offensive” co-host Ana Navarro said of the former president’s invitation to the annual white tie dinner in New York City for Catholic charities in New York.

Sunny Hostin added, “That is not a person I think should be normalized by the Catholic church,” as Trump “stands against everything and flies in the face of everything that a Catholic believes and holds dear.”

“It’s a tradition to have both presidential candidates come to this particular dinner, but sometimes there’s a time to break tradition. You can’t have a felon, a liar, a serial cheater [at a Catholic event],” she added. “He had Melania next to him—his third wife—who he cheated [on] with Stormy Daniels while she was pregnant.” Hostin then had to read a legal note that stated Trump has denied ever having an affair with Daniels.

Former Trump White House official Alyssa Farah Griffin said even with the optics of Trump’s participation in the fundraiser aside, his jokes “didn’t land,” she said, “It was very awkward.”

Joy Behar, meanwhile, pitched her own joke in response after they showed a clip of some of Trump’s remarks at the dinner: “A felon, a liar, and a traitor walk into a Catholic event—that’s the joke,” she quipped.

Behar also said she thinks Kamala Harris should have attended the dinner instead of holding rallies, but Navarro disagreed. “The part I loved about yesterday was Kamala Harris at that rally in Wisconsin,” she said as the hosts hyped the VP for shutting down MAGA hecklers by joking, “I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.”

Finally, the hosts did seem to get a kick out of Trump airing his grievances about their “stupid show,” during his time at the Al Smith dinner, during which he insulted their ratings and openly wished they would “bring Rosie O’Donnell back.”

Hostin said she enjoyed “living rent free” in Trump’s head: “I enjoy it. And I enjoy that he has admitted now at least three to four times that he watches the show. Thank you, Donald, hi!”
