Three New York City police officers were shot in two separate encounters on Thursday night. Two officers were shot at an N train at the Fort Hamilton Parkway subway station around 7:30 p.m. after they tried to detain a man who walked between the subway cars. Instead of accompanying the officers, the man opened fire, injuring both, but officer Michael Levay, who was shot in the back, returned fire, killing the shooter with seven bullets. In a separate incident, an off-duty police officer was shot around 6:30 p.m. during a robbery at a car dealership his family owns in the Allerton section of the Bronx, though he and an employee managed to subdue the gunman. All three officers are expected to recover.
