North Korea’s top three military officials have been replaced ahead of the country’s summit with the U.S. in Singapore, according to Reuters and South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. A U.S. official told Reuters that there was believed to be “some dissension in the military” on leader Kim Jong Un’s approach to South Korea and the United States. Yonhap identified the officials as defense chief Pak Yong Sik, Korean People’s Army's staff chief Ri Myong Su, and Director of the Army’s Political Bureau Kim Jong Gak. President Trump’s demand for the North Korea to denuclearize is running against the reported beliefs of their defense leadership, who allegedly see their nuclear arsenal as “crucial to its survival.” Trump announced the summit was back on last week immediately following a meeting with a North Korean official at the White House. The president previously canceled the summit in late May via letter to Kim.
