Golf legend Tiger Woods broke a decade-long dry spell Sunday and won the Masters tournament, marking his first major championship win since 2008, The New York Times reports. This is his 5th Masters win, and his 15th major title—only three shy of the record held by Jack Nicklaus. Woods was the top-ranked golf player in the world when his life began to unravel in 2009: a series of marital problems, cheating allegations, injuries, and a painkiller addiction led to him slipping in the national rankings—he was even, at one point, ousted from the top 50. But in 2017, Woods underwent a spinal fusion surgery that he called a “last resort,” sparking a monumental comeback that led to Sunday’s win.
