TikTok users in the U.S. flurried to social media platform X to complain that the ByteDance-owned app that went dark late on Jan. 18 was still unavailable to download on Apple and Google’s app stores, despite President Donald Trump halting a nationwide ban from being enforced when he took office Monday. “I deleted TikTok cuz what was the point of the extra space on my phone and now it’s back and not on app stores,” one X user wrote. “Did anyone else’s TikTok auto uninstall and not allow you to redownload or am I just getting targeted for some reason?” another said. Others shared screen-recorded tutorials apparently explaining how to get the app back. Some are taking advantage of anxious TikTok users by selling devices on eBay with the app installed for up to $50,000, Reuters reported. The Daily Beast has reached out to TikTok, Google and Apple for comment.
