Apparently Tobey Maguire didn’t have a very good hand. The actor has settled a lawsuit over litigation that he participated in illegal high-stakes poker games, winning more than $300,000 from convicted Ponzi-scheme fraudster Brad Ruderman. Ruderman is a hedge-funder who reportedly stole some $25 million, and a bankruptcy judge in California alleges that Maguire’s winnings are ill-gotten gains from Ruderman’s clients. Maguire has agreed to pay back $80,000, and acknowledged that he knew nothing of the Ponzi scheme. Other celebrities connected to the underground gambling ring (with $100,000 buy-ins) include Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon.
