California Gov. Jerry Brown has proclaimed Sunday, Oct. 16 "Steve Jobs Day." Brown had tweeted the declaration Saturday, and followed up with an official announcement. "It is fitting that we mark this day to honor his life and achievements as a uniquely Californian visionary," Brown said. A public memorial is planned this evening at Stanford University, but only members of Silicon Valley's "elite" were invited.
