Tom Cruise dove from the top of a Paris skyscraper, the Stade de France, while suspended by a wire during the closing ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Hollywood legend’s stunt was part of the symbolic handover of the Olympic flag to Los Angeles, where the next summer games will be held in 2028. After descending to the stage in Paris, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and gold medalist Simone Biles handed Cruise the flag. Cruise then rode a motorcycle out of the arena which began playing prerecorded footage of another spectacle: sky-diving into the Santa Monica Mountains and scaling the iconic Hollywood sign with the flag. Cruise, who is currently filming the eighth installment of the Mission Impossible series, is famous for doing many of his own stunts. But this particular stunt ended up becoming one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood. Deadline reported Cruise would feature prominently more than a week before the closing ceremony, and People reported Cruise filming a mystery stunt at the Hollywood sign back in March.
