A driver killed two kids in a devastating crash in Brooklyn on Monday, including the 4-year-old daughter of Broadway actress Ruthie Ann Miles, who won a Tony for her role in the The King and I. Miles, 34, was in critical but stable condition after the crash. The pregnant actress was reportedly on her way to a church event at a community center with the mother of a 1-year-old boy who also died when Dorothy Bruns slammed into them in a Park Slope crosswalk. Bruns said she “swerved” to avoid hitting another car and “remembers waking up behind the wheel but was unaware that she had hit anyone.” She was released from police custody. Law enforcement claims that video surveillance footage does not make clear who had the right of way during the crash. Ben Platt, a fellow Broadway actor who stars in Dear Evan Hansen, tweeted out support for Ruthie Ann and her GoFundMe page.
