Top Middle East Naval Commander Found Dead

Vice Adm. Scott Stearney, the top admiral overseeing the U.S. Naval Fifth Fleet which manages armed forces in the Middle East, was found dead in his residence in Bahrain on Saturday, the Navy announced in a statement. Officials say there is no evidence of foul play at this time, but the death is still being investigated. “This is devastating news for the Stearney family, for the team at Fifth Fleet, and for the entire Navy,” Adm. John Richardson, the chief of American naval operations, told CNN on Saturday.” Large amounts of oil and gas travels through the waters overseen by Fifth Fleet. Richardson said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Bahraini Ministry of Interior are cooperating in the investigation.
