Two days after a storm system killed 13 people in the Midwest and mid-Atlantic, several tornadoes reportedly tore through northern Alabama on Friday, leveling houses and forcing 20 school systems to close. A Huntsville police spokesman confirmed that injured people were being taken to hospitals in the region, though he didn’t know how many there were or how badly they were hurt. The National Weather Service warned of tornadoes, heavy winds, flooding, and large hail from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.
On Friday afternoon, tornadoes raked across southern Indiana, killing 14 people and completely wiping out the unincorporated town of Chelsea.
