Editor’s Note: The Daily Beast has retracted this article because of a significant error. The column argued that the February train derailment in Ohio could have been prevented by a federal rule—requiring electronically controlled pneumatic brakes on some trains carrying hazardous chemicals—that was put on hold by the Trump administration and not revived by the Biden administration. However, the train that derailed was not subject to that rule because it had fewer than 20 continuous cars carrying Class 3 flammable liquids. The Daily Beast regrets the error.
