The Trump administration issued a final rule to ban bump stocks, the devices that modify semi-automatic weapons so that they can fire multiple rounds at once, the Department of Justice said Tuesday. The rule comes almost a year after Trump ordered the Justice Department to take action following multiple mass shootings, including the Las Vegas shooting that killed almost 60 people and injured hundreds last October. Gun owners with bump stocks will now have 90 days to turn in the devices or destroy them after the final rule is published in the federal register, according to CNN. According to a press release, the DOJ has amended regulations, “clarifying that bump stocks fall within the definition of ‘machinegun’ under federal law, as such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.”
