President Trump attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Friday by tweeting out a highly-edited video of the freshman congresswoman talking about the establishment of the Council on American-Islamic Relations after 9/11. In the video, Rep. Omar can be heard saying, “CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something...” The video then cuts to footage of Ground Zero during the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. “Some people did something?” the video reads. “September 11, 2001. We remember.” In his own tweet, Trump wrote: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!”

In her actual remarks from the speech, Rep. Omar said CAIR was “founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.” According to The Washington Post, she then went on to tell Muslims to stand up against discrimination. “You have to say that this person is looking at me strange, I am not comfortable with it, and I am going to talk to them and ask them why,” she reportedly said. “Because that is the right you have.” Later on Friday, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wrote on Twitter that Rep. Omar's “life is in danger” after Trump's “explicit attack” against her. “For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress,” she wrote. “We must speak out.”
