President Donald Trump is aware of media reports regarding the sexual-misconduct allegation against Brett Kavanaugh and continues to fully support his Supreme Court nominee, a White House official told The Daily Beast on Friday. In a letter that had been in the possession of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Kavanaugh is accused of trying to force himself on an anonymous woman and covering her mouth at a high school party decades ago in the presence of his friend. After the allegations were published in The New Yorker on Friday morning, 65 women released a jointly signed letter saying they knew Kavanaugh in high school and attesting that he “behaved honorably and treated women with respect.” A spokesperson for Senator Feinstein said she was given the information about Kavanaugh through a third party and wanted to go public. “However,” the spokesperson said, “the woman in question made it clear she did not want this information to be public.” Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have said they will proceed with a vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination next week.
