President Donald Trump on Tuesday became the first president since 2002 not to visit the troops for Christmas. He called military members stationed in various locations Tuesday, but did not see any in person. Last year, he visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Dec. 21 and asked Coast Guard service members to play at his golf course. President Barack Obama visited troops in Hawaii every Christmas and President George W. Bush visited Walter Reed every year from 2003 to 2008, according to NBC News. Trump previously garnered criticism when he declined to visit Arlington National Cemetery on Veteran’s Day. He said then that he was too “busy.”
