President Trump on Wednesday appeared to put Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusal from the Russia investigation on par with a “betrayal.” Hours after publicly expressing regret for having chosen Sessions to head the Justice Department, Trump tweeted a quote from former U.S. Attorney Joseph DiGenova: “The recusal of Jeff Sessions was an unforced betrayal of the president of the United States.” The issue has come back to the forefront amid reports special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into claims Trump pressured Sessions to reverse his recusal from the Russia investigation, a move that could lead to obstruction-of-justice charges.
