President Trump has confirmed reports that CIA Director Mike Pompeo made a secret trip to North Korea last week to meet leader Kim Jong Un. The Washington Post reported the meeting was “part of an effort to lay the groundwork” for an expected summit between Trump and the North Korean leader in the coming months. The CIA director has been nominated by Trump to succeed Rex Tillerson as secretary of State. Confirming the reports Wednesday morning, Trump tweeted: “Mike Pompeo met with Kim Jong Un in North Korea last week. Meeting went very smoothly and a good relationship was formed. Details of Summit are being worked out now. Denuclearization will be a great thing for World, but also for North Korea!”
