Trump Defends Border Wall by Citing Rich Politicians' Home Walls

In his primetime Oval Office address Tuesday night, President Trump appeared to suggest all Americans should support his push to build a wall along the southern border because “wealthy” politicians build fences and walls around their homes. “Why do wealthy politicians build walls and fences?” Trump asked. “[Because] they love the people on the inside.” Trump also repeated his claim that the wall would be “indirectly paid for” by the new North American trade deal with Mexico, a claim that has already been widely disputed.
