The former British spy who has been named as the author of the lurid dossier about Donald Trump that was published by BuzzFeed News this week has fled his home and is “terrified for his safety,” fearing reprisals from Moscow. Christopher Steele, 52, fled from his home near London on Wednesday morning, leaving his cat with a neighbor who was told he would be away “for a few days.” Steele, who worked in Moscow for the Secret Intelligence Service in the 1990s, prepared the 35-page document that alleges the Kremlin colluded with Trump’s presidential campaign staff and that Russian security services have material that could be used to blackmail the President-elect. Meanwhile, Yahoo News reported that Steele has connections to U.S. law enforcement, having worked as a consultant for the FBI’s Eurasian organized-crime section, helping to develop information about ties between suspected Russian gangsters and FIFA.
