President Donald Trump reportedly personally paid for the meals the Clemson University football team enjoyed at the White House national championship celebration Monday night—and that is perhaps why he decided to feed them fast food. The meals included “McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King with some pizza.” Much of the White House staff that normally provides catering was either furloughed or staying at home due to the snowy D.C. weather. “I think that would be their favorite food, so we’ll see what happens,” Trump told reporters early Monday. “I think they’d like it better than anything we can give,” he said. White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told CNN in a statement that much of the White House residence staff was “furloughed” because the “Democrats refuse to negotiate on border security,” and said Trump would be bankrolling the catering that included “everyone’s favorite fast foods.”
