President Trump on Thursday floated the idea of offering “a little bit of a bonus” for teachers who are trained and armed. “You can’t hire enough security guards... but you could have concealed [carry weapons] on the teachers,” the president said, per pool reports. When asked he would support using federal funds to arm teachers, he said “I would, yeah.” He added that he wants schools to be protected like how banks are protected, and wanted teachers go through “rigorous training” to “harden our sites.” He also said that “people like to blame” the NRA and said he supported long-gun purchase age restrictions, asserting it “should all be 21,” before declaring that the NRA would support it (they currently oppose it).
