During an interview with ABC News, Donald Trump claimed once again that if he were president in 2004, he would have been able to keep Captain Humayun Khan alive. Khan died in combat in Iraq. “Had I been president, Captain Khan would be alive today,” Trump said. “We wouldn’t have been in this horrible, horrible mistake, the war in Iraq.” Trump went on to falsely assert again that he was against the Iraq War. Khizr Khan, Captain Khan’s father, who gave a famous speech at the Democratic National Convention, quickly responded by saying: “This is the most cruel thing you can say to grieving parents, that if I was there this would not have happened.”
