President Trump said Tuesday that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) should resign either from Congress or from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, days after her Sunday-night tweets were widely criticized for using “anti-Semitic tropes.” “I think she should either resign from congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” Trump said, according to a tweet from Associated Press reporter Zeke Miller. The controversy began late Sunday, when Rep. Omar responded to a tweet suggesting she and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) were being punished in Congress for criticizing Israel. “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby,” the congresswoman tweeted, before alleging that the nonprofit American-Israel Public Affairs Committee could be bribing politicians to take pro-Israel stances. Her comments drew swift condemnation from both sides of the aisle, prompting her to later apologize. On Tuesday night, Rep. Max Rose (D-NY), who first called out her tweets, said it was “time that we move on.” “There’s some hypocrisy there too,” the Jewish-American congressman added. “[The conservative] caucus can’t be chickenshit in the face of anti-semitism, either.”
