President Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to call on Attorney General Jeff Sessions—who has recused himself from the Russia investigation, and therefore cannot take any action on it—to end the “Rigged Witch Hunt” against him. “This is a terrible situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further,” Trump wrote. “Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!” He continued to smear the Mueller probe in later tweets, calling it a “TOTAL HOAX.” Trump has previously called on Sessions to overturn his own recusal, which was prompted in 2017 when it was revealed that Sessions failed to disclose his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to Washington. His “Rigged Witch Hunt” tweet may be of particular interest to Mueller, who has indicated that he will be reviewing Trump’s tweets, particularly those that involve Sessions and former FBI Director James Comey, for evidence of attempts to obstruct justice.
