President Donald Trump seemed so tickled by Elon Muskâs dig at The Atlantic that he had to repost it on his Truth Social page.
The âfirst buddyâ took a swipe at the magazine Monday afternoon after its editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg published a bombshell report detailing how he was inadvertently added to a top-secret group chat of national security officials discussing plans to strike Houthi targets in Yemen.
âBest place to hide a dead body is page 2 of The Atlantic magazine, because no one ever goes there,â Musk wrote on X.
The DOGE chief also reposted an article by the conservative satirical news website The Babylon Bee headlined â4D Chess: Genius Trump Leaks War Plans To âThe Atlanticâ Where No One Will Ever See Them.â
Trump republished Muskâs post on Truth Social with a link to The Babylon Bee story.
The president had a few things to say about The Atlantic itself, even as he admitted that he was unaware of both Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldbergâs stunning report and the Yemen operation central to it.
âI donât know anything about it,â the commander-in-chief told reporters at the White House on Monday. âIâm not a big fan of The Atlantic.â
âTo me, itâs a magazine thatâs going out of business. I think itâs not much of a magazine but I know nothing about it,â Trump went on. âYouâre saying that they had what?â
After a reporter explained what messages were exchanged in the group chat, Trump said: âHaving to do with what? What were they talking about?â
National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed the veracity of the group chat to Goldberg. The military strike was carried out on March 15, killing 53 people.
âThis appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain,â Hughes said. âThe thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.â
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that Trump continued to have confidence in his national security officials despite the massive leak.
âAs President Trump said, the attacks on the Houthis have been highly successful and effective. President Trump continues to have the utmost confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz,â she said.
