Trump Jr.: If Dad Made the GOP Into a ‘Cult,’ at Least It’s Working

SAY THE QUIET PART LOUD

“You know what? If it’s a cult, it’s because they like what my father’s doing.”

If President Trump has made the Republican Party into a cult of fealty to his leadership, as Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said this week, then at least it’s working, said Donald Trump Jr. “It's almost becoming a cultish thing, isn’t it? It’s not a good place for any party to end up with a cult-like situation as it relates to a president that happens to be of—purportedly—of the same party,” Corker said Wednesday following the GOP primary loss of Rep. Mark Sanford (who was viewed as insufficiently supportive of Trump) and the victory of Corey Stewart, a neo-Confederate running for Virginia’s U.S. Senate seat. In response Thursday, while appearing on Fox & Friends, Trump Jr. called the “cult-like” suggestion “ridiculous,” but then added: “You know what? If it’s a cult, it’s because they like what my father’s doing.” He continued, without further dismissing the “cult-like” designation: “You see actual Americans actually winning for a change... Americans want to see someone who’s actually going to have conviction.”
