President Donald Trump danced with a military sword to The Village People’s disco hit “Y.M.C.A.” hours after being sworn into office Monday. Trump and Vice President JD Vance—along with their spouses—were on stage at the Commander-in-Chief Ball for a ceremonial cake-cutting as they toured inaugural balls across Washington after taking their oaths of office as the 47th president and 50th vice president. Trump waved both hands in the air and shook his hips in a trademark move he cut frequently on the campaign trail. Vance and second lady Usha Vance looked on at Trump’s dancing with approving laughter, while oft-reserved first lady Melania Trump lightly mimed his moves and mouthed the song’s lyrics. As the politicians stood over cake, asylum seekers at the southern border were in tears after their existing appointments to apply for refuge and legally enter the United States were canceled. Refugee children already approved to enter the U.S. to reunite with their families were also stranded in Afghanistan after Trump canceled the flights of nearly 1,600 people from the country as part of an order suspending U.S. refugee programs.
