The White House reportedly sent a memo Tuesday offering federal workers who do not want to return to the office a buyout, which would see them paid through Sept. 30. “We thank you for your service to your country and you will be provided with a dignified, fair departure from the federal government utilizing a deferred resignation program,” the memo from the Office of Personnel Management read per the Associated Press. “If you resign under this program, you will retain all pay and benefits regardless of your daily workload and will be exempted from all applicable in-person work requirements until September 30.” The memo added that the offer is effective from Jan. 28 to Feb. 6, the last deadline for employees to resign. Axios was the first to report the scoop Tuesday, citing a senior administration official who told the outlet that the buyout will ensure “all federal workers are on board with the new administration” and would adhere to “higher standards.” The administration also reportedly predicts that the buyouts will save taxpayers up to $100 billion a year. The offer applies to all full-time federal employees, excluding military personnel, the Postal Service and those part of immigration enforcement and national security.
