Trump Officially Recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

President Trump on Wednesday officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered the State Department to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv. “I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Trump said. “After more than two decades of waivers, we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.” U.S. allies have consistently warned Trump against the move, and many have expressed fears that the recognition and an embassy relocation to the disputed holy city could spark violence in the region.
