President Trump on Friday praised Republican Greg Gianforte’s victory in Montana’s special congressional election. “Great win in Montana,” the president told reporters, unsolicited, during a photo-op at his visit to Sicily with other Group of 7 leaders. He did not elaborate upon the comment. Gianforte’s victory over the Democratic candidate, Rob Quist, came with great controversy: On the eve of the election, Gianforte was reported to have grabbed a Guardian reporter by the neck and body-slammed him to the ground, resulting in misdemeanor assault charges.
