White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted out a statement from President Trump confirming that he has ordered a “supplemental” FBI investigation into Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh. “I’ve ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file,” the statement read. “As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week.” Earlier Friday, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) called for a week-long FBI investigation into the sexual-assault allegations against the nominee before the vote is taken to the Senate floor. A number of senators came forward in support of Flake’s call. On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard the testimony of Kavanaugh and accuser Christine Blasey Ford, who testified that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school. Ford’s attorney released a statement that said Ford “appreciates the efforts” of the senators who supported the FBI investigation. “A thorough FBI investigation is critical to developing all the relevant facts,” it read.
