The Trump Organization reportedly owed $36,200 in late property taxes to Los Angeles County but paid them off after The Washington Post inquired about the delinquent bills. The unpaid taxes were reportedly on two parcels of land at a Trump golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, which will eventually be developed into “23 new home lots” for sale. The taxes for those two parcels were reportedly declared delinquent on Dec. 10, and a Post reporter inquired about the unpaid taxes to the Trump Organization on Monday after noticing the delinquencies on a government website. Later that day, the city confirmed the company had paid off their taxes “plus $3,600 in late-payment penalties.” The company reportedly did not answer why the taxes had been paid only after a media inquiry but told the newspaper on Tuesday that it would be an “outright lie” to say the taxes were unpaid when they were now “paid in full.” According to the Post, this is the second year in a row that the company failed to pay taxes on the pieces of land—incurring another $3,500 penalty last year for not paying on time. This comes as the organization’s “conflicts-of-interest” official is reportedly leaving the company in June to promote a book he co-wrote about Trump, just as Congressional Democrats and federal probes are scrutinizing the Trump Organization’s “accounting and business practices.”
