President Trump claims people have told him his 2016 campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” is “the greatest theme ever in politics.” Trump reportedly made the comments Tuesday at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual spring dinner while broaching the topic of what his 2020 campaign slogan should be. “Do I go with Make America Great Again, or do I go with Keep America Great, because I made it great in theory?” he asked the crowd. Despite his 2016 MAGA slogan being a variation of a phrase used by Ronald Reagan in 1980—which Trump himself acknowledged in his speech— he said the motto was “made up by me.” “We ran on a theme: Make America Great Again. And a lot of people are saying that may have been the greatest theme ever in politics. Ronald Reagan had a small thing called ‘Let’s Make America Great.’ That was good,” Trump said. “I don’t like it as much. And he sure as hell didn’t use it as much.”
