President Trump on Sunday lashed out at Russia and Iran for “backing animal Assad” in Syria following a suspected chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians. “Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria,” Trump wrote, singling out Iran and Russian President Putin for their support of Syrian President Bashar Assad. “Big price to pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!” he said. Syrian activists and medical workers say at least 40 people were killed Saturday in a chemical attack on the town of Douma, the last rebel stronghold in Ghouta. But it was not immediately clear what chemical agent was used in the alleged attack. Trump also took a jab at former President Barack Obama for not doing enough to end the “Syrian disaster,” even as the chemical attack came just days after Trump said the U.S. will “be coming out of Syria, like, very soon.”
