Former President Donald Trump has seemingly patched things up with a high-profile Republican antagonist in Washington, according to a report from Axios Thursday night. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who clashed with Trump during last year’s brouhaha that led to the ouster of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, apparently hosted a fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida—where Trump himself made an appearance, Axios reported. The former president apparently even said a few words in support of the Minnesota Republican. Emmer is also slated to serve as Minnesota’s chairman for Trump’s 2024 campaign, the publication reported—a big boon for the cash-strapped outfit given Emmer’s well-publicized fundraising abilities. “[Trump] was honored to attend Whip Emmer’s fundraising event last night at Mar-a-Lago,” Republican National Committee spokesperson Danielle Alvarez told Axios. The apparent mending of Emmer and Trump’s long-simmering rift means that Trump now has all of the chamber’s Republican leaders behind him—an important development in the 2024 race.
