Donald Trump has claimed that the North Korean people “love” Kim Jong Un in an extraordinary interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos following the summit in Singapore. “His country does love him,” said the president. “His people, you see the fervor. They have a great fervor.” Asked how he can say then when the leader stands accused of torturing and murdering his citizens, the president replied: “George, I’m given what I’m given, OK? I mean, this is what we have, and this is where we are, and I can only tell you from my experience, and I met him, I’ve spoken with him, and I’ve met him.” Asked if he trusts the North Korean leader, Trump said: “I do trust him, yeah. Now, will I come back to you in a year and you’ll be interviewing and I’ll say, gee I made a mistake? That’s always possible.”
