Despite His Own Veto Threat, Trump Signs Spending Bill

Avoiding a government shutdown, President Donald Trump signed the $1.3 trillion spending bill Friday afternoon after threatening to veto the bill just hours earlier. “There are some things that we should have in the bill,” Trump said in remarks. “There are a lot of things that I'm unhappy about in this bill. I will never sign another bill like this again." Trump mentioned he had wanted action on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and more funding for a border wall in the bill. He also advocated for the Senate to end the filibuster rule, and called on Congress to give him a line-item veto on spending. After the House and Senate passed the omnibus bill late Thursday, Trump tweeted Friday morning that he was “considering a VETO” of the spending bill due to concerns over border wall funding and the future of DREAMers. This comes after he reportedly told House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that he wanted more federal funding for the southern border wall with Mexico, according to Politico.
