During his combative White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, President Trump had one particularly bizarre exchange with American Urban Radio Networks’ D.C. bureau chief April Ryan, in which he asked Ryan, who is black, if she is “friends” with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). The comment came in response to Ryan asking: “When you say the inner cities, are you going to include the CBC in conversations with urban agenda?” Trump responded: “Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours? Set up a meeting. I would love to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus. I think it's great.” Ryan was most recently the subject of Trump-related controversy when she accused Trump ally Omarosa Manigault of physically threatening her and suggesting the president has collected “dossiers” of negative information on journalists like her. Shortly after Thursday’s press conference, the Congressional Black Caucus tweeted to Trump: “Hi, @realDonaldTrump. We’re the CBC. We sent you a letter on January 19, but you never wrote us back. Sad!”
