President Trump has unleashed his anger at Attorney General Jeff Sessions, telling The Hill in an interview released Wednesday morning that Sessions has effectively gone AWOL and was performing poorly at all the tasks required of him. Trump has repeatedly attacked Sessions for his decision to recuse himself from federal investigations into Russian election interference—but the president said this was just one of several things that was upsetting him about Sessions. “I don’t have an attorney general. It’s very sad,” Trump told The Hill inside the Oval Office on Tuesday. “I’m not happy at the border, I’m not happy with numerous things, not just [Russia],” he said. Trump went on to say he felt especially betrayed by Sessions because “he was the first senator that endorsed me, and he wanted to be attorney general, and I didn’t see it.” He added: “We’ll see how it goes with Jeff. I’m very disappointed in Jeff. Very disappointed.”
