Trump: White House Counsel Don McGahn to Leave After Kavanaugh Vote

President Trump confirmed Wednesday morning that lawyer Don McGahn will leave the White House this fall. “White House Counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court,” he tweeted. “I have worked with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service!” If Democrats flip the House in the upcoming elections, McGahn’s replacement will be in charge of handling requests for documents and testimony. McGahn does not intend to leave Trumpland entirely, as he hopes to help with the president’s reelection campaign, a source told Axios. Trump has not yet named a successor, but McGahn told a confidant he hopes it will be Emmet Flood, who served in the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) tweeted that he disapproves of McGahn’s departure. “@realDonaldTrump I hope it’s not true McGahn is leaving WhiteHouse Counsel. U can’t let that happen,” he wrote.
