WONDER WHY

There are “days when you think, ‘ugh, what am I doing,’” he said.

Just days after Donald Trump publicly sided with Vladimir Putin over U.S. intelligence, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats paused when asked by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell if he’s considered resigning. “That’s a place I don’t really go to, publicly,” said Coats, who on Monday issued a statement tacitly rebuking the president to reaffirm that Russia’s election interference in 2016 was real. Coats—who ducked The Daily Beast’s question about resignation earlier this week—said that there were “days when you think, ‘ugh, what am I doing,’” but told an audience at the Aspen Security Forum: “As long as I have the ability to see the truth and speak the truth, I’m on board.” —Spencer Ackerman
