Michael Cohen, special counsel to the Trump Organization and a spokesman for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, gave a weak non-apology for saying “You cannot rape your spouse.” In a statement issued to CNN on Tuesday, Cohen said: “In my moment of shock and anger, I made an inarticulate comment—which I do not believe—and which I apologize for entirely.” Cohen did not say what statement he is referring to, nor that he was factually wrong in saying the law doesn’t recognize spousal rape, which it has since 1984 in New York, where the Trumps were married. Furthermore, Cohen did not apologize for calling Daily Beast reporter Tim Mak an “idiot,” threatening to end his career, take “every penny,” and do something “fucking digusting” to him.
