Conservative commentator Mark Steyn, who guest-hosted Thursday night for Tucker Carlson on Fox News, went after the “mainstream media” for criticizing President Trump’s “sucker” comments while visiting U.S. troops in Iraq, apparently ignorant of the fact that the network’s commentators did the exact same thing earlier in the day. Liberal commentators widely decried Trump’s comments during his visit, especially his claim that pulling out of Syria means “we’re no longer the suckers.” Steyn referenced these criticisms during his segment, calling them “Yet another liberal media meltdown, the mainstream media taking the opportunity to turn a presidential visit to American troops into an attack on Trump.” But Steyn apparently didn’t realize that Fox News commentators slammed Trump for the same reason. “I would never consider us, as a country, as the United States, ‘suckers,’” contributor Julie Banderas said on the Fox show Outnumbered. “We have always led the fight in every major war. Military men and women, I believe, deserve way more respect than that.”
