Tumblr is banning all adult content from its site, the blogging platform announced Monday. The ban will cover all photos, videos, and GIFs that show human genitals or women’s nipples, as well as any content that depicts sex acts, according to a post on the site’s help center. Nudity related to art, political speech, or health-related situations like breastfeeding will be exempt. The ban comes after Tumblr was removed from the Apple App Store over concerns about child pornography. The site’s relatively lax rules on nudity—compared to other social-media sites like Facebook and Instagram—has until now made it a popular platform for sex workers and erotic artists. The ban is expected to take effect on Dec. 17.
