What's more intense than a volcano? Two of them! Two separate volcanoes in the southwestern part of Alaska's mainland began erupting in tandem this week. The weirdest part? The volcanoes are totally unrelated. The first to become active, Pavlof Volcano, is about 590 miles southwest of Anchorage and has been spewing since May 13. The second, Veniaminof Volcano, began erupting on its own this Thursday. A 12,000-foot ash plume was spotted on Saturday coming from Veniaminof, which is about 100 miles northwest of Pavlof. Talk about explosive news.
