The University of Michigan said Tuesday they were canceling a planned screening of American Sniper at an event after students signed a petition that objected to how Arabs are portrayed in the Iraq war drama. “We deeply regret causing harm to members of our community," Michgian's Campus for Center Involvement said, "and appreciate the thoughtful feedback provided to us by students.” The student letter said that "although we respect the right to freedom of speech, we believe that with this right comes responsibility: responsibility of action, intention, and outcome," and added that the movie "promotes anti-Muslim" rhetoric and "sympathizes with a mass killer.”
