University of Oklahoma President David Boren expelled two members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity who he said were leading the racist chant heard in a now-infamous video. Boren said Tuesday these students, one of whom has been identified as freshman Parker Rice, “created a hostile learning environment” and were thus expelled. Rice and the other student have until the end of Friday to appeal the expulsion. “I hope that students involved in this incident will learn from this experience and realize that it is wrong to use words to hurt, threaten, and exclude,” Boren said, adding that more will be punished. “We will continue our investigation of all students involved and engaged in the singing of this chant. Once their identities have been confirmed, they will be subject to appropriate disciplinary actions.”
