Military forces backing the internationally-recognized government in Libya started air strikes on Saturday to ward off opposition forces led by strongman Khalifa Haftar’s militia army which has promised to march on Tripoli. Fighter jets struck positions near Tripoli held by Haftar’s army, which is known to have some ISIS sympathizers. The latest tensions erupted as United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres was visiting the country to lay the groundwork for a peace conference to be held April 14. U.N. and U.S.-backed rime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj has vowed to keep control of the country through military force, according to Bloomberg.
