The United States on Wednesday backed up the United Kingdom’s assessment that Russia was behind a nerve-agent attack against a former Russian spy in the United Kingdom. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the U.S. also supports the U.K.’s decision to kick out Russian diplomats as punishment. “This latest action by Russia fits into a pattern of behavior in which Russia disregards the international rules-based order, undermines the sovereignty and security of countries worldwide, and attempts to subvert and discredit Western democratic institutions and processes,” Sanders said in a forceful statement condemning the Kremlin.
